Course Description

Expand your knowledge of oil painting while developing new techniques. Using landscape as a subject, students learn two techniques of painting in an impressionistic style: Alla Prima (wet-on-wet) quick painting and multi-layered, textured painting. Topics include the process of mixing paints, brushstroke techniques, managing linear and atmospheric perspective, tonal values, and color variations. By the end of the course, students learn to structure complex shapes and objects and to register the subtleties of color in relation to the overall color of the object.
