Course Description

Exploring the intersection of photography and drawing with the city of Los Angeles (or an alternative place where you are located) as the subject. In this course, students will create works of art on paper that translate locations into visual information. When a snapshot is taken, this document is missing so much- smells, sounds, textures, temperature. This course employs digital photography, graphite, charcoal, inks and more as the mediums to document your surroundings. The results will vary, some may be representational, while others will be quite abstracted. The course will first prepare students to create these pieces by learning a variety of mark making techniques with a wide range of materials. Then, students will create larger pieces that record the locations they are most interested in investigating. This could be as micro as a corner of their neighborhood or as macro as a slice of the city they are most familiar with.

IMPORTANT:

All K-12 and Pre-College students are required to complete and return a K-12 and Precollege Mandatory Forms Packet prior to admittance into the classroom. Students will not be permitted to attend without this.
