Course Description

Fanciful tree with pinks and blues

This is the acrylic painting course to take if you have never picked up a paintbrush. To learn the basic skills and processes of painting, students learn to mix acrylic paint, use value and color, and render an image. Over 6 weeks, they will focus on the craft and execution of an acrylic painting with attention given to the role of seeing and using color as value, color mixing, paint as material, and the process of building the surface. Through a combination of synchronous (lectures, critiques, and demos) and homework time, students produce 3 paintings, using their choice of simple subject matter, still life, figurative images, and photo composites.
