In this fun and participatory 2-day workshop, students will work with typography as material for visual design as they connect virtually to the Otis Lab Press. Through demos and studio time, students will be guided through the process of creating a poster through experimentation with typography. Techniques include analogue printing processes (raised letterforms and applying ink with a brayer) and digital manipulation (using a smartphone and Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator). Topics will include experimental processes and techniques with typography in 20th Century art history movements, which will serve as inspiration for the design process. Posters will be printed by the lab, and mailed to participants after the class. Students will receive a materials kit including paper and printing tools for use during the workshop.
