XILU6311 - Fantasy, Magic and Gothic Children's Books

Course Description

Add magic and unexpected twists...to your children’s book illustrations. In this 6-week course, students take a “working outside your normal zone” and enter the world of fantasy, magic, and gothic. Through collecting ideas and inspiration from illustrated books, sketching with pencils or pens, and revising, they will take risks with style and technique for their own book illustrations. Students will be assigned readings outside of class time, bring in artistic inspiration, and use class time to work, share their work, and receive critical feedback in support of developing their work. 

Notes:
- Through weekly Zoom meetings, students will work under the guidance of instructor expertise to achieve their work in a virtual studio environment.
- This course does not provide certificate credit.
