Course Description

Uncial is widely used in contemporary design, including the Google logo. It is the predecessor  of  Gothic, dating back to the 4th  century AD. Using ink, watercolor, and gouache, students learn the historic and modern variations of the Uncial letterform with focus on letter structure, basics of spacing, letter variations, and flourishes. By the end of the course, students will achieve basic knowledge of chisel tip pen calligraphy; write with Uncial; properly space letters, words, and text; and use letter variations and flourishes. No previous experience is required.

Note:

- Through weekly Zoom meetings, students will work under the guidance of instructor expertise to achieve their work in a virtual studio environment.
