Course Description

What defines abstraction and other non-representational art in the 21st century? Explore the powerful language of abstraction as it manifests in the act of painting, from Colorfield paintings of the 1950’s and 60’s  to monumental gesture murals of Julie Mehretu. Using acrylic paint and mixed media, students work with abstract form as it relates to gesture, texture, color and materiality of paint. Students will produce 3 paintings during the class. Class-time critiques help students develop their personal style and aesthetic. Students of any level are encouraged to attend.
