Course Description

Illustration showing about a half dozen 3D modeling parts

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of animation, blending traditional 2D techniques with modern 3D practices. Designed for aspiring animators at all skill levels, the class covers core principles such as squash and stretch, anticipation, timing, spacing, and character performance while incorporating hands-on experience with both hand-drawn and digital animation tools.

Students will begin with foundational 2D animation exercises, exploring the art of frame-by-frame movement, keyframing, and expressive storytelling. As the course progresses, they will transition into 3D animation, gaining an introduction to rigging, posing, and animating characters in a digital environment. Through guided instruction, critiques, and creative projects, students will develop a well-rounded understanding of animation as both an artistic and technical discipline.
