Course Description

Four head and shoulders sketches of women characters being developed

This introductory class is designed to immerse students in the fundamentals of creating compelling, original characters for animation. This course focuses on the art of character design, exploring the essential elements that bring animated characters to life. Through hands-on projects, students learn how to develop unique characters with distinct personalities, visual styles, and narrative purposes. Although there will be an option to work with digital tools, this course will work primarily with traditional media (paper, pencils, brushes and acrylic paint). By the end of the course, students will have a strong foundation in character design, equipping them with the skills needed to create memorable characters that resonate with audiences.
