Course Description

This specialization examines photography’s role as a cultural phenomenon and tool for documentation, representation, and self-expression. Students will learn to shoot in both film and digital camera formats as well as work in the film and digital darkrooms. Develop your skills in photography while focusing on traditional themes of still life, portraiture, and documentation. In addition, this course will explore contemporary practices using photographic methods. Learn to manually use your 35mm Film Camera, digital DSLR or mirrorless camera, shooting and composition techniques, and editing techniques for film photography and digital photography such as: digital workflow and editing with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Students will create a final project relevant to each individual’s interest and ability. Beginning to advanced level students are welcome.

Notes: 

  • IMPORTANT: All SOA students are required to complete and return Summer of Art Mandatory Forms 2024 Packet prior to admittance into the classroom. Students will not be permitted to attend without this.
  • Housing is only available for students who enrolled in Summer of Art Programming for 5 days per week.
  • Tuition includes a non-refundable $200 deposit per course.
