Course Description

Art in the Drone Age is a 9-week multidisciplinary exploration of the modern-day drone’s influence on art and the art making process. The course presents its participants with an engaging immersion in distinct surveys of art history, cultural studies, flight school, and digital storytelling to provide a broad and balanced foundation of theory and practice for artists seeking to understand and use the drone in making work. This course challenges students to consider aesthetic, operational, and ethical aspects of how the drone is used or regarded in the production, documentation, performance, and critique of art. The course format integrates lecture, demonstration, reading, in-class flight simulator activity, hands-on operation of drones in outdoor settings, and basic multimedia editing.

Students are not required to own their own drones. If you'd like to use your own drone, your drone must not have a GPS locator.
