Course Description

Websites and Web Applications have become one of the most important facilitators of human communication in the modern world. Whether it is twitter, a news agency, or a small business, well-crafted user experience and design is now a baseline expectation of every website user. Web design as a discipline challenges us both creatively and analytically, and is still evolving every day. If this sounds intriguing, this course is for you.

In this course students learn how to strategize, plan, and design websites that are web responsive, intended to work fluidly from desktop to mobile. Through lecture, exercises, and design critiques, they apply user-centered design methods and develop hands-on practice with the most current industry standard design tools.

Topics center around visual design strategy, information architecture, usability, user interface, and responsive web design. Students design their own unique projects and test their effectiveness by building design prototypes and testing them.

Notes:

  • Through Zoom, students will work under the guidance of instructor expertise to achieve their work in a virtual studio environment.

  • Students may advance to Web Design II where they develop technical skills to design for interactivity.
