Course Description

This class focuses on drawing/painting the human figure undraped and draped on a large scale, 48" x 32" drawings on white or toned drawing paper, mat board or chipboard.  Students will purchase all materials.  The classroom will provide 48 " x 32" MDF board for use in class. Students will draw with graphite, charcoal, conte pencil, colored pencil,  ink or acrylic paint. Preliminary work and gestures will be done on 24” x 18” newsprint or sketchbooks. We will cover basic human anatomy during the first 2 weeks .  Instructor direction will be offered to encourage students to be expressive and creative in their pictorial development. The class will cover some conventional figure drawing concerns such as composition, gesture, proportion, primary and secondary structure, line, volume and value quality.  Instructor will demonstrate methods and techniques in drawing that promote gesture, atmospherics and transparency to describe the human form in an environment. Some figure drawing experience is helpful. First Day, bring drawing materials, charcoal and oversize surface or paper to work on.

Beginning Drawing and Life Drawing are recommended.
