Course Description

The color pencil may seem like a simple tool, but don’t underestimate its versatility. Students explore the creative potential of this medium, including drawing and painting skills and processes. Using wax or oil-based color pencils, students work with still-life subject matter. Special attention is given to drawing and underpainting techniques to establish the value range, color layering and blending, color mixing, and the process of building the surface, and constructing a subject using photographic compositions. Class time critiques help students develop their personal style and aesthetic.
