Course Description

Traditional letterpress has gone digital with the use of photopolymer plates. This studio course, offered exclusively in Southern California at the Otis Lab Press, focuses on how to use this versatile medium. Students learn all aspects of the process for relief printing using the Vandercook flatbed cylinder press and photopolymer plates, from digital prepress to letterpress printing. Students work with the instructor to finesse their personal design creation and realize their letterpress project. Running a letterpress business is also discussed. Previous experience with image editings such as Adobe Illustrator and page-layout software is required.
