Course Description

This course relies on curiosity and discovery of the natural world. Observational drawing enables artists to gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. In this 6-week course, students develop drawing techniques and practice with materials to arrive at scientific accuracy with room for personal expression. Areas of focus include learning simple yet detailed line drawings, basic shapes, and forms, light and shadow, perspective, and composition. Botanical subjects will be based on what is readily available among flowers, leaves, seed pods, fruits, vegetables, nuts, fungi as well as shells, feathers, rocks, minerals, insects, and fish. Students complete their own finished drawings as they refine their drawing practice. No prior knowledge is required for this course!
