Course Description

What is space planning? A part of interior design, it’s the analysis of how a residential, commercial or public space will be used. This includes the space’s purpose as well as occupancy, circulation, and accessibility. This course covers the utilization of space, from rooms to buildings, as well as general zoning requirements. Students produce several floor plans and quick renderings of public spaces finalized by adding all necessary furniture and equipment. 

Note:

  • Taught through an online learning environment, this course does not include live meetings. Students take part in course activities at their own pace; course content will be posted on a weekly basis based on the scheduled meeting date.

Prerequisites

Specific coursework required for Certificate Students, all other students should have equivalent experience.

  • Course teaching method: Asynchronous
    • Asynchronous: Taught through an online learning environment, allowing for flexibility with scheduling of the student's participation in activities. Interaction takes place through organized discussions, posts and replies to messages, and uploaded multimedia and resources. Activities include email, listservs, online discussion boards, wikis and blogs.
