Course Description

How are oil paints different from other painting methods? They allow for better blending, the ability to work on a painting for a long period of time, and the flexibility to rework. Students in this introductory course use nontoxic water-soluble oil paints to mix primary colors that make vibrant secondary colors and develop lights to darks to create a strong value scale. Projects range from realism to surrealism. Lectures explore the various styles of oil painters throughout history, from still-life masters like Caravaggio to surrealistic artists like Magritte and Dali.
