Course Description

Improve your technical photography skills to allow for greater creativity in your work. Develop familiarity with different types of analog and digital cameras and lenses -- including medium format film cameras; learn digital editing techniques; apply advanced lighting techniques; and create high-quality inkjet prints in the Otis Photography Lab... all while continuing to develop your photographic voice. 

Students choose to work in black and white film, color film, and/or digital, with instruction on scanning negatives (if working in film), working with RAW files (if shooting digitally), and using Adobe Lightroom for managing and editing workflow. Emphasis is placed on developing both the technical and creative aspects of photography. Through guided studio time, reading assignments, critiques, and presentations of historical and contemporary photography, students develop their own individual direction and photographic concepts that serve the development of portfolio-ready high-quality inkjet prints.

  • Bring to the first class: camera, camera manuals and something to take notes.

Prerequisites

Specific coursework required for Certificate Students. All other students should have equivalent experience.
