Course Description

Los Angeles, with mild weather, few bugs, and a fascinating mixture of urban and untouched landscape remains an unexploited oasis for the plein air painter. This 6-week course explores the unique challenges of painting outdoors, including organizing materials; formal/practical issues (such as maximizing time for painting and working quickly and decisively, but not hastily); and light, form and color. Additionally, with two homework projects and two of the sessions held remotely, the course will address how to use Plein Air as a form of research to facilitate larger projects in the studio. This course will meet in a variety of locations with adequate parking and facilities, at a time of day with a view to optimum light and traffic.

Note:

- This course includes a combination of online and on-campus meetings.

- This course does not provide certificate credit.
