This introductory course provides a survey of techniques and design foundations central to today’s surface designer production methods. Students are introduced to foundational 2D design and color theory concepts while gaining hands-on practice with tools and techniques. Techniques 1 focuses on hands on paper art methods that include Collage, Goauche painting, Blockprinting, Botanical Printing, and Cyanotypes. Students learn each of the methods through hands-on virtual instruction. The class is structured with alternating biweekly synchronous instruction and group critiques. Students end the semester with a personal final project to dive deeper into these techniques.
Surface Design Techniques I, II, and III run concurrently with student cohorts working on unique course content under the guidance of the instructor.
