Course Description

Explore the world of independent publishing through hands-on experience in bookbinding, printmaking, and alternative image-making. This course gives students the opportunity to step away from the screen and create hand-made, limited edition books using analog techniques. Learn about the history, culture, and community behind artist books and zines, as you create your own unique editions. New image-making and bookbinding skills will be introduced each week as the class progresses from simple folded structures to sewn and stapled books to more complex sculptural bindings. Students make several independent artist books and zines, leading to the creation of a collaborative class book for the final project.

Prerequisite: None

Included in Course Price: $40 (materials provided by instructor)
