Course Description

Botanical and scientific Illustration requires the ability to mix colors accurately and repeatedly for the subject at hand. It is important to master a palette of 10 to 12 colors and be familiar with their pigment characteristics. This class will provide a solid foundation through practical, in-depth exercises, lectures, and demonstrations for all aspects of color mixing for scientific/botanical illustration. Participants will build their own individual color charts and acquire the necessary information about modern pigments that will be essential throughout their botanical/scientific endeavor.

Although watercolors will be used in class, the principles of this instruction also apply to acrylics, gouache, inks, oil paints and casein.

No experience required.
