Course Description

This intermediate course builds on color and design application skills in Techniques I, advancing skills and creative approaches with techniques critical to today’s Surface Design artist’s portfolio. With a focus on fabric, students create 4 projects that involve working with paints and fabric dyes applied in tactile projects including Screenprinting/Stencil Printing, Shibori, Ice Dyeing, and Marbling. Students create a final project with an in-depth study of 1 or more of these techniques.

Through lectures, demonstrations, and lab time, students develop hands-on knowledge of art and technical applications relevant to an in-house or freelance surface design artist, and achieve portfolio-ready artwork.

- Through weekly Zoom meetings, students will work under the guidance of instructor expertise to achieve their work in a virtual studio environment.

Specific coursework required for Certificate Students; all other students should have equivalent experience.
