Course Description

Surface design of brown lines running in multiple directions

This intermediate course builds on color and design application skills in Techniques I, advancing skills and creative approaches with techniques critical to today’s Surface Design artist’s portfolio. With a focus on fabric, students create four projects that involve working with paints and fabric dyes applied in tactile projects, including Screenprinting/Stencil Printing, Shibori, Ice Dyeing, and Marbling. Students create a final project with an in-depth study of one or more of these techniques.

Through lectures, demonstrations, and lab time students develop hands-on knowledge of art and technical applications relevant to an in-house or freelance surface design artist, and achieve portfolio-ready artwork.

Note:
- Surface Design Techniques  I, II, and III run concurrently with student cohorts working on unique course content under the guidance of the instructor.
